old letters and cards

Found this idea on pinterest (where else?) as a solution to my card storage problems.  I have saved pretty much every card that I was given and I love looking through them, but its hard to enjoy them when they are in a cardboard box in the attic.

So this was the perfect solution (I think).

Here are some cards from my opa and oma that I found while looking through the attic.  Oma would usually write the letter and opa would use his art skills to draw these at the end of the letter.

Oma didn't think this one was accurate though . . .

He may not have been much of a artist but I love these drawings so much!!

Projects

Over Christmas break I was able to do a lot of painting, drawing, and sewing.
It was really freeing to finish a baby quilt that I have been working on FOREVER-or at least it feels like it. It is also the first quilt I have made! I was postponing sewing the binding of the quilt because I have never been that nuts about hand sewing. But it turned out to be a lot of fun!

The next project that I worked on was a Tiny Toons cartoon, pictured below. I also posted the video that I drew it from (hopefully it plays for you!).

It took me two days to draw and color it and I love how it turned out!!!

Last night I taught Breanna and her friends how to do block printing and stamping. Below, are the tools to use for carving.

First you pencil your own design onto the blocks; then you carve out along the lines.
The snowmen block I did previously, Breanna carved the branch with berries, Heather did the snowflakes, and I did the oak tree.

Then you ink the blocks with a mini brayer (far left corner) and ink.

And the finished products.

"Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers."

Music Covered Canvas

I followed a tutorial on this blog --which is where I got the idea-- and I am so happy with how it turned out!  It was a lot of fun to see it come together!

I even found one of my mom's clarinet practice books from high school that fit perfectly with the rest of canvas!

Art

Last year I was mostly into drawing cartoons, but since I started art class, I have been able to learn how to draw (or paint) some really cool things.

This is one of my newest projects from art class. My teacher had us do a project that would come out looking like a stained glass drawing.

First I drew her (free-hand) on the black card stock with a art pencil.
I had some inspiration from a picture my art teacher had.

Then I went over the pencil lines Elmer's no-run gel;
I also added glue to some of the details on her dress.
After it dried, I colored it in with Prismacolor pencils. The pencils I used made the colors stand out really well.
It was a really fun project. You have to be patient while the glue dries, but it was worth the wait. I really like how it is textured and how the different colors came through.

Ocean Mosaic

I just finished making a mosaic for the upstair's bathroom. Since the theme in the bath room is oceanic, I decided to make a sea like mosaic. These are some of the photos from my project:
The window before I painted it- only $6 bucks at the ReStore!

Still needs some work on the hinge.
Laying out and cutting the glass
