{week 23}

Okay, so really gross picture.  One of the baby goats cut themselves while jumping out of its pen (or at least thats what we figured).  I was home alone when I found her outside her pen with this three inch cut.  But Leslie was house-sitting a few minutes away and she came to my rescue.  Actually the goat's rescue.

And she stitched this baby up.  Didn't she do a good job?

And the goatie was no worse for the wear.  So this week I am thankful for healthy goats and multipurpose sewing needles!

 "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part,  but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.  Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror;then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.  And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Photography {03.04.12}

I have been taking care of my neighbors dog and their new puppy, Chester this past week.  We haven't had a puppy at our house in several decades so Lester came along with me to play with Chester :)

I love the feeling when I get a good shot--like this one--it makes me so happy!

Leslie: I am never gonna let you move away; I just love you too much to let that happen!

Me trying to be disciplinary . . . it clearly didn't work :)

"Ode" to the Dirty Dog . . .

I have been taking care of our neighbor's two golden retrievers this past week. The farm dog and long-haired dog thing doesn't go together very well. At least that is what I think.
Anyway, I biked over to take care of them this afternoon and Mabel, the younger dog, wasn't there. A few minutes later she came running from around the barn. She was covered in manure. Fresh manure. And she stank . . . really bad.
I grew up on a farm, so manure isn't gross to me. But when it is on a dog that wants to jump on you and that you have to feed and pet and . . . yeah. Mabel looked at me with a pitiful, sad expression. My heart and hand almost went out to her . . . almost, but it didn't.

I really wanted to spray her off with the hose. But she was avoiding me because she knew I wasn't happy with her.
We still went on our walk to the creek, which was great because Mabel went in the water, and sadly--for her-- all most of the manure was cleaned off of her. I was sad too, because Mabel shook diluted manure and creek water on me.

Baby Goats!

Our goat, Periwinkle, gave birth to three baby goats April 5 early in the morning. I went out to check on her at 1:50ish and she had already had one a few minutes earlier. I woke my mom up and we watched Peri have the next two. Here are some pictures of them later that morning. The sleepy boy.

The boy (back) and his sister, who's the only one with normal ears.

These babies are so much bigger than Cocoa and Carmel (two babies born in August 2009).

Baby Goats!

Our goat, Summer, gave birth to three adorable baby goats on August 1, 2009.
She had two girls and a boy.

Here is a list of things that I like about the baby goats:

1) They love to play, dance, run and just have fun!

2) They don't have any worries in life.

3) They love food-- I do, too : ]

4) They follow me almost everywhere--which always surprises my Mom and sister when I take
them in the house : ]

5) They are always happy to see me.

6) They are soft and they smell good.

7) They are very adventuresome

8) They sigh a lot after they are fed and it sounds really cute!
